Yenisel Cruz-Almeida, M.S.P.H., Ph.D.
Dr. Cruz-Almeida is an Assistant Professor at the University of Florida Institute on Aging within the College of Medicine. She earned her B.S. in Microbiology & Cell Science from the University of Florida (2001), her M.S.P.H in Epidemiology & Public Health with a concentration in Biostatistics from the University of Miami (2004), followed by her Ph.D. in Neuroscience from the University of Miami (2011). In 2012, she completed a post-doctoral fellowship in translational pain research.
As a clinical neuroscientist, Dr. Cruz-Almeida’s research interests are related to understanding the mechanisms involved in age-related pain perception and modulation in humans. Using multiple interdisciplinary and translational approaches, her research examines nervous system factors contributing to the observed inter-individual differences in pain phenotypes in older adults and accompanying functional consequences including mobility impairment and cognitive decline.
