Friday October 15th: Spotlight

This week we welcome postdoc Dr. Jessica Peterson from the University of Oklahoma. Working under the mentorship of Dr. Yenisel Cruz-Almeida, her current research examines the role of physical activity on brain age in individuals with knee osteoarthritis. Her previous work centered on examining the effects of COVID-19 on pain modulation, the effects of body composition and exercise-induced muscle damage on pain sensitivity, and nonlinear methods to analyze the nociception flexion reflex. She first became interested in pain research during her PhD training as an exercise physiologist. Jessica aspires to work in an academic setting teaching and conducting research examining the aging process effects on muscle atrophy, brain health, and the development of chronic disease. In her free time, you will find Jessica making memories enjoying nature, hiking, spending time at the lake, ocean or river, going to a play or show, listening to live music, watching and playing sports, or enjoying the local culture. Welcome Jessica!
