How does chronic pain effect spatiotemporal gait?

Dr. Yenisel Cruz-Almeida, alongside members of both her lab, as well as UF faculty, sought to answer the question: “Which pain outcome measures are associated with spatiotemporal gait performance in older adults with chronic multiskeletal pain?” in their research article, ‘Pain severity, distribution, and duration are associated with spatiotemporal gait performance in community-dwelling older adults with chronic musculoskeletal pain.’

In the article, which has recently been published in Gait & Posture, the researchers did indeed find that specific pain measures were associated with specific gait impairments.

Original Research on COVID-19 and Pain Care

During the height of the COVID-19 pandemic, pain management nurses continued to provide quality inpatient and outpatient care to older adults, despite the risks involved.

In the article, ‘Original Research: The Impact of COVID-19 on Pain Care Among Older Adults’ which has recently been published in The American Journal of Nursing, Dr. Star Booker, alongside researchers across the country, gathered data from semi structured interviews of 18 pain management nurses. Within the article, opportunities to improve the health system as well as enhance the nursing practice to better meet the needs of older patients are touched upon, as well as challenges and personal experiences faced during an unprecedented public health crisis.
