QST Testing and Qualitative Analysis
Traditionally, neuropathic pain is measured using quantitative sensory testing (QST), which focuses on numbers and measurements to understand pain sensations. A new article however, suggests incorporating qualitative analysis to better understand, treat and intervene on patients experiencing neuropathic pain!
The article, “Beyond numbers: integrating qualitative analysis into quantitative sensory testing for neuropathic pain”, co-authored by Yenisel Cruz-Almeida suggests using qualitative analysis to understand the experience of pain beyond just numbers. Qualitative factors include how pain feels, the impact it can have on daily life, as well as emotional aspects and effects.
The article suggests that by combining quantitative measurements with qualitative insights, researchers can gain a more comprehensive understanding of neuropathic pain.
