Pilot Study Examines Positive Psychology
Chronic low back pain is a major health issue for older adults which affects their ability to lead active lives. A recent pilot study tested whether a positive psychology program could help older adults build resilience and improve their ability to cope with chronic low back pain.
The program, which was conducted by researchers from UF including Emily Bartley, Ben Ofri, Terrie Vasilopoulos, Shreela Palit, Calia Torres and Kimberly Sibille, was well-received, with participants showing reduced pain intensity, less interference of pain in daily life, lower depression levels and better satisfaction with their health!
The study, “Promoting a foundation of resilience in older adults: pilot trial of a strengths-based positive psychology intervention for chronic low back pain” has been published in Health Psychology and Behavioral Medicine: an Open Access Journal!
