New Research Sheds Light on Gait Speed and Cognitive Function

A new study examined how walking speed changed in older adults when transitioning from flat surfaces to increasingly uneven terrain. The study, co-authored by Yenisel Cruz-Almeida, David Clark and Todd Manini, alongside researchers from The University of Florida as well as the University of Michigan found that walking speed declined as terrain unevenness increased, with the greatest reductions observed in individuals with lower mobility function.

The article, “Correlates of gait speed changes during uneven terrain walking in older adults: differential roles of cognitive and sensorimotor function” has been published in Experimental Brain Research. Check it out!
