One Number: 73

73 faculty are affiliated with PRICE.

They sit in Physical Therapy, Medicinal Chemistry, Community Dentistry, Biobehavioral Nursing, Clinical and Health Psychology, Anesthesiology, Pharmacotherapy, Neuroscience, Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation, Biomedical Engineering, and Applied Physiology — plus a group of affiliated researchers at institutions beyond UF.

The number matters less than the spread. A center that studied pain from one disciplinary angle would produce one kind of answer. Pain does not have one kind of answer.

Consider a single patient with knee osteoarthritis. The relevant expertise includes joint biomechanics, inflammation biology, central pain processing, exercise physiology, pharmacology, and the psychology of activity avoidance. No one person holds all of that. A center is how you assemble it.

That is what a “center of excellence” is actually for: not a building, but a standing arrangement for putting the right specialists in the same room as the same problem.
