The Interdisciplinary Pain Research Journal Club is the most consistently running series PRICE has. It appears in the site’s event archive repeatedly across 2024 and 2025 — listed there under its former name, the Pain and Aging Journal Club — roughly monthly through the academic year.
The format is the standard academic one and it is more valuable than it sounds. A group meets, one person presents a recent paper, and everyone argues about it. Methods get questioned. Statistics get checked. Someone points out the sample was 80% white and the conclusions are being stated more broadly than the data supports. Someone else notes the effect size is small enough that the clinical relevance is unclear.
This is where research training actually happens — not in coursework, but in the room where papers get taken apart by people who know how they were built.
It is also where a lot of collaborations start, because arguing about a paper is an efficient way to discover you and someone in another department are circling the same question.
There is a sign-up form on this site for the journal club, and it has been receiving entries as recently as March 2026.
If you are a UF trainee, faculty member, or clinician with an interest in pain research, this is the lowest-commitment way to find out whether this community is one you want to be part of.
