Study Name: Photobiomodulation for Management of Temporomandibular Disorder Pain

ULLTRA1

Purpose of the study

The purpose of this research study is to learn about a possible treatment for temporomandibular disorder (TMD) pain. This study will test the use of Photobiomodulation (PBM), which is a combination of two different types of light, low-level laser therapy (LLLT) and Light-emitting Diodes (LED). PBM has been used to treat different pain conditions for over 30 years. This study will test if this type of treatment is helpful for people with TMD pain.

To be eligible, you must:

  • Be 18 years of age or older
  • Have a diagnosis of TMD or
  • Have experienced facial pain for at least 3 months

What will happen if I participate?

If you choose to participate, you will be asked to come to our research clinic at the University of Florida for 11 visits. The entire study would last approximately 7-8 months. The first visit is a screening session that will take up to 3 hours. The other visits will last between 1 and 2½ hours.
