Congratulations to PRICE affiliated faculty, Dr. Burel Goodin, and his colleagues at the University of Alabama at Birmingham, on their recent publication “The Area Deprivation Index Corresponds Effectively with Other Measures of Objective Socioeconomic Status in Adults with Chronic Low Back Pain” published in the Journal of Nursing Measurement. The Area Deprivation Index (ADI) is a well validated measure of social deprivation and neighborhood disadvantage. This study offers preliminary evidence that the ADI is an effective measure of socioeconomic status in people with chronic low back pain and adds to the growing body of literature indicating neighborhood disadvantage is an important determinant of chronic pain outcomes. https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/34518395/
